Did you know that Instagram reels have 2.35 billion active users?! According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg, reels are currently the primary source of growth on Instagram’s platform. What does this mean for your business/brand? This means that your potential for reach is HUGE if you are utilizing reels!
Reels have a 22% higher interaction rate than standard video posts. Not only can your reels reach a wide audience, but reels have a very high share rate. So, if one person finds your content useful, they may choose to send it to other viewers, thus growing your audience even more! So you may be wondering, “How can I reach my maximum potential with reels?”
Here are our Best Practices for Reels:
Create a shotlist to refer to for video footage.
Let’s be honest, reels look easy until it comes down to filming. In order to make it easier on yourself, prepare a shotlist of ideas, topics, inspiration, and b-roll footage to record in one, or multiple sittings. Check off the list as you record each segment. This is also a great way to find which type of reel is most comfortable for you.
Bulk-record footage
Planning out content looks good on paper, but it can often take longer than expected. Instead of pushing off reels whenever you get too busy, pencil in a few hours to bulk record your content. Have your shotlist ready and go right down the list of planned video footage!
Plan out different outfits and locations for your reels
When bulk-recording, a lot of reels may start to look and feel the same. Have a few outfits planned out, and change every once in a while for a different look. It is also a good idea to think of a few different locations to record in. These can be complete different areas around town, or just switch up some backgrounds within your office! Varying outfits and backgrounds can help give your reels a fresh, new feel; even when you are recording them all at once!
If you have a new idea, write it down!
Sometimes we think of a great content idea, but don’t have time to execute right at that moment. If you see a post that inspires you, or if a topic pops in your mind during a meeting, write it down so you do not lose it! This doesn’t mean you have to record it as soon as possible. You can even add this idea to your next shotlist and record it when you have scheduled time to do so. Want to record it right away? Even better! If you are able, record the idea while you are excited about it and when it is fresh on your mind.
Download an editing app
If you aren’t working with a social media team, download an editing app on your phone! This will help you piece together your reel. Eliminate pauses, speed up clips, add music and captions, and more! Editing footage is key to an engaging reel. Our recommended apps for editing reels and Capcut and Canva.
Finding trends
Depending on your business’ social media goals, you may be interested in participating in trending reels! Trending reels are great for exposure, but this tactic does not always translate into clients/leads due to the reel reaching outside of your target audience range. With that being said, you can absolutely still participate in trends, because…well…they’re fun! Scrolling through reels is the best way to find the most up to date trending audio/music to utilize. You can also find a lot of inspiration for trending reels by viewing those of other accounts. Choose something that you feel comfortable with and have fun!
There are so many creative and unique ways to use reels to grow your business. Need help organizing your shotlist? Maybe just editing your reels? Looking for a hands off approach and someone to manage your accounts? We would love to help you where you are at!
