It can be easy to stay in your comfort zone, especially as a small business owner. After all, change can be scary, and growth of any kind can come with a lot of unknowns. Growing a business means being prepared to invest in more staff and better technology, and making sure that you have systems in place that can handle more customers than you’ve seen before.

The rewards for investing in the growth of your small business are totally worth it, though. If you’re ready to take the plunge and start growing your business today, here are 6 tips that can help you to bolster your current marketing strategy.

1. Hire a Professional

Yes, yes we know, entrepreneurs like to think that they can do it all themselves. And some of them can, but at what cost? Do you really want to do the full-time work required of a CEO and put in the hours necessary to ensure a successful marketing plan? Isn’t creating time and financial freedom one of the major benefits of (and reasons for) starting a business in the first place?!

Hiring an expert who knows the ins and outs of the marketing world is your best bet for growing your business like a pro, and can actually save you time and money (and frustration!) in the long run.

2. Make Sure Your Website Is Optimized

Having a fully functioning and visually appealing website is a must, especially in the time of a global pandemic when more and more people are doing their shopping online. If you don’t have a website, the time to build one is definitely now!

If you do have a website, it’s extremely important to make sure that it works the way it’s supposed to and that potential customers can easily navigate your site whether they are accessing it from a laptop or a mobile device.

At the very least you want to make sure that your website includes contact info, a secure e-commerce platform, an up-to-date privacy policy, and high-quality images that showcase your products or services.

Remember that in the digital world, your website serves as the face of your business. If it looks like doo-doo or takes as long to load as a dial-up connection, people won’t be compelled to browse past your home page.

3. Create Quality Content

It’s been said before and we’ll say it again: don’t post just for the sake of posting!!

You want to make sure that the content you post is intentional and has meaning. A good way to ensure quality content is by asking yourself the following questions when creating it:

  • Who will benefit from viewing this content?
  • What problem am I helping my audience to solve?
  • What information am I providing?
  • Who will find this entertaining?
  • Is this easy to read and grammatically correct?
  • If I am including a CTA, is it something that my ideal client will be excited about, or does it sound like just another sales pitch?
  • How can I make this more visually appealing? If it’s just a block of text, can I break it up into an attractive infographic? Can I use an image to better get my point across? Would this content be better served in a video format?
  • How can I make this content more accessible? If it’s a video, can I add closed captions?

4. Make SEO Work for You

If you want people to be able to find your website online, you need to rank high in search results. That’s where Search Engine Optimization (SEO) comes in. SEO is the process of generating organic search results (as opposed to those coming from paid ads) through the strategic use of keywords, as well as internal and external links.

To make SEO work for you, be sure to include relevant keywords that accurately describe your content, as well as reliable links to sources both within your site and to reputable external sources.

You also want to make sure that your contact info is up to date and consistent throughout your internet presence, and that you have claimed and are actively managing your Google My Business profile.

5. Ask for Testimonials

There is no shame in asking happy customers to leave positive reviews or write testimonials about the services or products your company provides. You can also create a referral program that rewards customers for referring you to their friends and families.

Word of mouth is a powerful (and free!) form of advertising that is often overlooked because business owners don’t want to hassle their customers for a review. However, studies show that 83% of customers will leave a positive review when asked, as opposed to just 29% who do it of their own volition.

6. Don’t Neglect the Power of Social Media

If social media isn’t a part of your overall marketing plan, it needs to be! Incorporating social media into your business strategy helps you to get the word out about your services in a way that traditional advertising techniques just can’t compete with.

Advertising on social media is great because it helps you to create ads that are designed for a targeted demographic as well as allowing for the use of a wide range of media, including text, images, and video.

Social media also enables you to communicate quickly and effectively with your audience, which helps you to expand your reach and improves the customer service experience.
